ICW
On February 2, 1999, Ben Malone signed a contract
with ICW under the name, Trilogy X, which gave him the first opportunity
to show his skills. His first appearance was on February 8th, during
a battle royale when he ran through the crowd and threw the final two
wrestlers out of the ring. Immediately, he made an impact. Three days
later, he teamed up with a struggling wrestler named Chip Minton against
several other wrestlers including Mike Mechanic. Three days after that,
he received a TV title shot against a living legend named Bret Masters.
To his surprise, he won and later was named into the Wolfpac, the rival
faction to the Ministry. His reign was short lived, though, as he lost
to Mechanic 4 days later. At about this time, a man named Prowler (Steven
Lee) would be starting up a new faction of his own named the Revolution.
X, however, would win the TV Tag Belts with Chip Minton on the 22nd
of the month. Unfortunately, this would be one of his last matches before
the ICW would close down due to financial problems. Trilogy X's road
to stardom would reach a slight roadblock.
May
1999 - The ICW would reopen. Unfortunately, much of the talent roster
was depleted because many wrestlers left and signed on with other promotions.
Among them was Chip Minton, Trilogy X's tag team partner and one-half
of the TV Tag Champs. Trilogy X, would stay and he later chose Mechanic
as his partner. Along with Paladin, Mike Mechanic, and Steven Lee, X
would rebuild the Wolfpac which became the most powerful stable in the
ICW. X quickly captured the Internet Belt which he held until his match
against Stone Cold Steve Austin for the US Belt. The fight ensued from
the previous match, a Hardcore Tag match between Bret Masters and Paladin
against Kane and Smoke. X used his arsenal of moves to defeat Austin
and become the US Champ. Days later, he received his first chance at
greatness, a World Title shot against Bret Masters. The match was hard
and furious, both men were staggered, but then Lance Manyon came in.
He attacked Masters and X, allowing Masters to retain the title. X would
face one more match before ICW was shut down once again.
